QPD revamps response because of rise in COVID-19 cases

Posted: Jul. 31, 2020 10:20 pm

QUINCY -- The Quincy Police Department said it is adjusting its response to calls for service as COVID-19 cases increase.

Starting Friday, the department asks that those who need to report a crime that is not in progress to do so by telephone or through the "online crime reporting" page on the city of Quincy's website, quincyil.gov.

The department said that calls for service to the Quincy/Adams County 911 Center that can be handled over the phone will be done so in that way. An officer assigned to the call will contact the individual by phone to gather information and determine the best way to proceed.

The department said any calls for crimes in progress or that require police response will continue to have officers report to the scene.

The change in protocol will remain in place as long as it is absolutely necessary, the department said.
