Connie L. Wells, age 78, of Quincy, passed away at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois on June 5, 2026.
Connie was born at home on a farm northeast of Kahoka, Clark County, Missouri on September 16, 1947 the daughter of Glee and Veva H. (Cochenour) Morris. She spent her childhood in rural Clark County and graduated from Kahoka High School, Kahoka, Missouri in 1965. She graduated as a member of the National Honor Society. Following graduation from 1965 to 1970 she worked as a legal secretary for Mr. Ralph Breidenstein, Attorney at Law in Kahoka.
She was united in marriage to William L. Wells on May 23, 1970 in the First Baptist Church, Kahoka, Missouri. To that union were born two children. A son Jeffrey M. Wells, D.O., and a daughter Elaine R. (Wells) Fitzgerald. Connie made her home briefly in Bowling Green, Missouri and then Canton, Missouri. In 1977 the family moved to Quincy, Illinois and that became her permanent life long home. During her married life she has been a loving, dedicated and caring wife, mother and homemaker, the highest calling a woman can ever have.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Quincy for over 48 years. She served as a Deaconess on the Board of Diaconate for a number of years, was a member of Sarah Circle American Baptist Women, and has been a long-time member of the Aletheia Sunday School Class. She was known for her pleasant cheerful smile which brought sunshine to those around her. She was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord from early childhood throughout her entire life. She never wanted to be the center of attention but worked quietly and humbly in the background to serve the Lord and do her best to share His love with other people. She was also an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Western Chapter Illinois Society of Professional Engineers.
Connie loved to travel around the country by automobile road trips (no airplanes). She just enjoyed riding along and taking in the marvelous beauty of God’s creation. Oceans, lakes and rivers, hills and forests, wide open spaces, but most of all the Colorado Rocky Mountains. She loved the gentle fluttering of golden aspen leaves in the fall, the moaning of the wind through endless pine forests, the beauty of snow-capped mountain peaks, and just quietly sitting beside a gurgling mountain stream to watch and listen to its never-ending flow. Above all however, the thing that brought the most joy to her heart was playing with and watching her grandkids as they grew up. To her each one of them was a special gift from God.
She is survived by her husband William L. Wells. her son Jeffrey M. Wells, D.O., a grandson William F. Wells, two granddaughters Sophia E. Fitzgerald and Kayla M. Fitzgerald, two step- grandsons Ethan M. Moore and Elijah C. Moore, one son-in-law Michael A. Fitzgerald and his wife Stephanie K. Moore-Fitzgerald, step-daughter by marriage, and one brother-in-law Larry L. Ross as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
