Celebrating 65 Years: Rex and Joyce Barns

Rex and Joyce Barnes of Quincy are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary with a family dinner planned by their children.

Rex Barnes and the former Joyce Hays were married May 7th, 1961 in the United Methodist Church in Kirksville, MO.

Mrs. Barnes is the daughter of the late Ruth Capps and J. Dewey Hays. Mr. Barnes is the son of the late Leo and Velma Barnes, all of Kirksville, MO area.

They are the parents of R. Blane (Angie) Barnes, B. Shane (Kathy Tappe) Barnes and T. Dane (Lisa) Barnes. They have eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Barnes is retired from the Quincy Public Schools, where he was an administrator at Quincy Junior High for 23 years, the last 15 years there as principal. He started his career as a teacher and coach at Marion County RT 2 in Philadelphia, Mo. He was also principal and coach at Wright City, MO for 4 years.

Mrs. Barnes has worked as a secretary in Kansas City, MO. As well as Kirksville Osteopathic Hospital and Quincy High School. She was a stay-at-home mom when her children were young.

The couple enjoyed traveling in their motor home after retiring, spending winters in Arizona and part of the summer in Montana.

Watching their grandchildren grow up in Quincy was an enjoyable time for the couple. Grandchildren are Madalyn (Brandon) Snowden, Makenzy Barnes, Chloe (Ashton) Henderson, Kramer (Kacie) Barnes, Grace (Alijah) Rollins, Kellen (Molliny Keokham) Barnes, A.J. (Ben Heimann) Barnes and Halle (Javi Magallon) Barnes.
