JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — North Shelby and Knox County have set themselves up for a battle for a team state title.
Knox County’s Cooper Clair has done all he could so far. Clair sits first after prelims in the 100-meter dash (10.97) and the 200-meter dash (22.16). Clair also anchored the 4×200-meter relay team of Grayson Miller, Anthony Bruegenhemke, and Creighton Karhoff to a leading time of 1:31.62. The same group also set the pace and won the prelim on the 4X100 with a time of 44.45.
Parick Clark of Knox County still needs to do high jump as well on Saturday so there are points to be had.
North Shelby has already struck first blood and put points on the board and is currently in second place with 17 points after five events have been scored. The 4×800-meter relay team of Bo Bacon, Ty Bacon, Gage Daniel, and Domenic Williams ran 8:33.67 to take fifth place as a team.
North Shelby’s Drake Prange took second place in the discus by throwing 49.38 meters (162’) on his final throw of the day. The day and scoring started, and restarted, with Jake Gesiendorfer at the pole vault.
The Vaulters got through their first jumps when it was realized that the height was not correct and everyone had to start over again. Geisendorfer ended up clearing his first three heights but went out of the competition at 3.8 meters (12’5”). That placed him in fourth.
Plenty of points still remain up for grabs on Saturday for the Raiders. Prange will throw the shot put, alongside Gannon Bowen. Bowen and Talon McCoy will throw the Javelin.
The finals on Saturday will be filled with anxious moments and a lot of scoreboard watching as the events unfold.
