AUG. 19, 1944 – JUNE 1, 2026

Rev. Dr. David Alan Eadie, age 81, of Quincy, entered eternal life Monday, June 1, 2026.

David was born August 19, 1944, in West Frankfort, IL, the son of Robert Blissfield Eadie Sr. and Nellie Mae Horrell Eadie. He married Gwendolyn Kay Holsapple on August 12, 1967, in Newton, IL. She survives.

First and foremost, David was a man of God. As a man of deep faith, moral clarity, and social responsibility, David was called by God to minister to His people here on Earth. David was a good and faithful servant. David was a graduate of Woodruff High School in Peoria, IL; he went on to attain a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Psychology from McKendree College in Lebanon, IL. He received his Bachelor of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX,
and his Doctor of Ministry from the Christian Theological Seminary at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN.

David began serving as a Pastor in the Methodist Church while still in college. He was ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church in 1968 and an Elder in 1970. During his 46 years as a Pastor, David served in several parishes. Some of his more notable appointments include: Westmer Parish in Mercer County, IL, 1973 – 1978; and the First United Methodist Churches of Marshall, IL, 1978 – 1985; Kewanee, IL, 1985 – 1992, and Galesburg, IL, 1992 – 1996. From 1996 – 2002 he served as District Superintendent of the Illinois River District of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the United Methodist Church. David spent the final eight years of his career as a Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, IL, retiring in 2010. During his career, David served 12 years as Chairman of the Conference’s Board of Global Ministries.

In 2020, the Eadies’ relocated to Quincy to be closer to family. David attended and became very active at Vermont Street United Methodist Church where he loved to volunteer and sing in the choir. David spent his life in the service of others and had an unrivaled commitment to community, a dedication to lifting the poor out of poverty, and fiercely defended the underprivileged and downtrodden among us. David was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

In his life, David served many churches. In each one, he was a valued and trusted leader. He kept in contact with members of each church even as he started new chapters of his life. Through David’s lifelong commitment to God, he became a cherished member of his community. He was widely recognized in his church not only for his strong leadership, but also for his uplifting presence and his overwhelming kindness. He always loved to tell a joke, maintaining his strong sense of humor even as he neared the end of his life. David had a way of making everyone he knew feel as if they were his favorite person in the world. His love, his wisdom, and his example, will
continue to shape the lives of his children, grandchildren, as well as generations to come.

It would not be fit to say that David lost his battle with Alzheimer’s; the illness could not rob him of the things he loved most. Although he lost many of his memories, he never lost his love for his friends, his family, or his God. He cherished Gwynn until the end, who remained at his side as he faced his darkest moments. When God called him to Heaven, David was still holding her hand.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Gwynn, include: two daughters, Sarah (Josh) Rhea of Jacksonville, IL, and Emily Lindgren of Quincy, IL; four grandchildren, Kaleb (Randa) Rhea, Benjamin Rhea, Wesley Lindgren, and Elise Lindgren; and a brother, James Bruce (Sheri) Eadie.

David was preceded in death by: his parents, Robert, Sr. and Nellie Eadie; a son-in-law, Michael Lindgren; two brothers, Robert Blissfield (Betty) Eadie, Jr. and Paul Warren (Alice) Eadie; and two sisters, Elizabeth Ruth Eadie and Iva Jean (Herb) Bayley.
