Illini West advances to sectional title game with win over Monmouth-Roseville

CHILLICOTHE, Ill. — Illini West baseball is moving on in the IHSA Class 2A postseason.
The Chargers defeated Monmouth-Roseville 5-1 in Wednesday’s Class 2A Illinois Valley Central Sectional semifinal game.
Illini West struck in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead after Wes Robertson hit a sac fly to drive in Eli Bisby.
The Chargers struck again in the second inning after Robertson hit a three-RBI double, and added another run in the fifth when Austin Cramer drove in Ethan Carlisle.
Robertson earned the win on the mound after pitching a complete game with 10 strikeouts, while allowing four hits and one earned run. At the plate, he went 1-for-1 with two walks, a double and four RBIs.
Carlisle went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, while Bisby went 1-for-3 with a walk, stolen base and two runs. Hocker went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
Up next for Illini West (28-8) is the Class 2A Illinois Valley Central Sectional championship game against Brimfield (31-5) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Brimfield defeated Rockridge 7-6 in Wednesday’s other sectional semifinal game.
