William J. Hesse, age 98, of Quincy, died Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Illinois Veterans Home.

He was born October 10, 1927, in Mendon, Illinois, the son of William A. Hesse and Ada Mae Allensworth Hesse. On July 9, 1958, he married Teresa A. Meyer in Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2016.

William attended Franklin School in Mendon and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Methodist faith. William was a former member of Eagles and Moose Lodges. He enjoyed car racing, traveling, wood crafts and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had been employed as a sheet metal worker and installer for Peter’s Heating and Air Conditioning for 25 years.

Survivors included: a step daughter, Cheryl (Steven) Potter of Quincy; stepson, Steven (Marsha) Grotz of Quincy; a brother, Jerry Hesse of Quincy; 2 sisters, Shirley Schneider of Quincy, and Eileen Clapper of Branson West, MO; a sister-in-law, Ginger Hesse of Quincy; 6 grandchildren, Travis (Stacy) Grotz, Troy Grotz, and Trent (Teri Sue) Grotz; Julie Lohman, Matthew Lohman, and Michelle Hesse; 7 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, Teresa, William was preceded in death by: his parents, William and Ada Mae Hesse; a son, Michael Hesse; 2 grandsons, Brad and Chad Lohman, in infancy; two brothers, Larry Hesse and Eugene Hesse; a sister-in-law, Patti Hesse; and a brother-in-law, Rick Clapper

Graveside Service: 10:00 am Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Greenmount Cemetery with Chaplain Dave Hall officiating. Inurnment to follow. There will be no visitation.
