APR. 14, 1937 – JUNE 11, 2026

Florence Darlene Doss, 89, of Green Lake, WI, formerly of Quincy, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026, at her home in Green Lake, WI.

Florence was born April 14, 1937, in Bem, MO to Paul and Lydia (Bentlage) Loeb. She was married to Fritz Arnold Winsett in 1958 in Carthage, IL. He preceded her in death in 1961. She married Charles L. Doss on August 1, 1969 in Overland Park, KS. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2003.

In 1954, she graduated from Carthage Community High School, and she later pursued her calling in health care by attending St. Mary Nursing School. That education launched a long and meaningful career as a registered nurse, a profession in which she served with skill, compassion, and dedication. She worked at Pittsfield Illini Hospital and St. Mary Hospital, where she cared for patients with professionalism and kindness. She also spent six years in industrial nursing at Motorola, followed by seven years at the Illinois Veteran’s Home. Florence concluded her career at Barry Community Care Center, where she served for 10 years until her retirement.

Outside of her career, Florence enjoyed a rich and active life. In her younger years, she loved bowling and was proud to have won the Women’s City Singles League one year. She treasured special outings with her daughter, Terry, including trips to the Drive In Theatre in West Quincy, where they enjoyed many of Elvis Presley’s movies together. Camping became another favorite pastime, beginning with tents and later moving to a camper. Along the way she and her family made friends with neighboring campers who later became travel companions. Together, they even took vacations to Alaska and Hawaii, creating memories that lasted a lifetime.

Florence also looked forward to her annual mother-daughter trips with Terry to Wisconsin each July in celebration of Terry’s birthday. Those journeys often included visits to Door County, where she would gather cherries and prepare her well-loved Door County cherry pie. At home, she found comfort in reading mysteries, watching cooking shows, completing word searches, and admiring hummingbirds. Above all else, Florence loved her family. She was overjoyed by the arrival of her grandson, Nicolas, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with him.

Florence is survived by her daughter, Terry Rex and her husband, Scott, of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, and by her grandson, Nicolas Rex, of Whitefish Bay. Florence was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; and three brothers, Armin, Paul Jr. and Lawrence. Her family remembers her as a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a woman whose kindness and strength left a lasting impression. Florence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the life she lived and the love she shared.

Friends and Family are invited to Florence’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at O’Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. A Funeral Ceremony will be at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.
