Norma Lee Beckett of Golden, Illinois died June 6, 2026, at Eden Vista Burr Ridge Assisted Living in Burr Ridge, Illinois.
She was the oldest daughter of Oltman and Clara (Osterman) Busboom and born in Quincy, Illinois. She graduated from La Prairie Grade School and Golden High School. She married Jack R. Beckett on October 18, 1949, in Golden. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2022.
Norma worked as a cook at Central High School from 1965 – 1966. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years where she started in 1968 as a clerk for the Golden Postmaster. She also served as a substitute clerk at Liberty, Illinois and as Officer-In-Charge for one year at Camp Point, IL. She was appointed as Postmaster at Bowen, Illinois in September, 1979. She also served as President and Secretary of the 623 Post Masters group. Norma participated in the Benjamin Franklin Stamp Club program and conducted lunch hour stamp club for the South Eastern 5th graders.
Norma was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church until recent years, serving as church organist, member of WELCA , choir and bell choir, and the Ladies Quilting Group. She was also the first woman to be elected to the Church Council. Norma also participated in town committees and events. She was a curator for the Golden Windmill museum and worked to raise funds to restore the Windmill. Her hobbies included collecting stamps and coins and researching genealogy. In her younger years she enjoyed golf, bowling and hosting parties at her home. She loved visiting and caring for her Grand, Great Grand and Great-Great Grandchildren.
Norma is survived by four children Jackie, of Silvis, Illinois; Richard (Laurena), of Bolingbrook, Illinois; Jill (Mike, deceased) of Golden, Illinois; and Kelly, of Bolingbrook, Illinois. Family includes sisters Joan Post, La Prairie, Illinois and Betty (Alex) Nelson, Indian Harbor Beach, Florida; 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother-in law, Melvin Post, of La Prairie, son-in-law Mike Gooding of Bowen Illinois, and a great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at J. Otto Funeral Home, Golden, IL on June 15, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the funeral at 11:00 am. Rev. Adam Doellman will officiate the service. Burial will be in Golden Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Golden Windmill.
