Grace Vivian Balsar, 98, of Ursa, known to family and friends as “Vivian”, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Vivian was born on August 12, 1927 in Quincy to the late Harvey and Celia (Andrew) Hillman. She married Gerald Balsar on February 17, 1951 in Quincy.

Vivian was a member of the Ursa Christian Church. Throughout her life she enjoyed camping, attending the Adams County Fair, reading, and spending time with family and friends. An avid reader, she could often be found with a book in hand. Camping at the fair was a cherished tradition that she enjoyed for more than 40 years. She treasured family gatherings, whether sharing a home-cooked meal or enjoying food brought by loved ones.

Known for her feisty spirit and straightforward nature, Vivian never hesitated to speak her mind. She left a lasting impression on all who knew her and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are three grandchildren, Krista (Matt) Fainter of Spring Hill, Kansas, Shawn (Kristin) McCord of Durham, Missouri, Marissa Massner of O’Fallon, Missouri and four great grandchildren Alaina Fainter, Liam Fainter, Rogan McCord, and Barrett McCord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Balsar, son, Rodney Balsar, daughter, Marcia Pryor, and great granddaughter, Adlee Moran.

Graveside Services for Vivian will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the New Providence Cemetery near Ursa, Illinois. Rev. Bill Mitchell will officiate. There will be no visitation but friends and family are invited to attend the graveside services at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Otto Funeral Home in Mendon.
