Elsie Mae Nieders, age 94, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 2:05 p.m. in Blessing Hospital.

Elsie was born on June 2, 1932 in Burton, IL, a daughter of Leonard and Clara Dieker Ehrhardt. On January 16, 1954 she married Orville J. Nieders in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Quincy. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2018, after 64 years of marriage.

Elsie attended St. Anthony of Padua School, and she was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

She was employed for many years at Nieders Nursery and Florist, but she had also worked at Kroger and First Bankers Trust. While she valued her work, the roles she cherished most were those of Mom and Grandma.

Elsie enjoyed staying active and spending time with family and friends. In her spare time, she liked taking bus trips, visiting Las Vegas, bowling, golfing, quilting, and completing puzzles. She was a member of Friends and Neighbors (FAN Club) and looked forward to dining out and spending time with the girls.

She was known for her generosity and hospitality. Elsie loved feeding people, and she rarely attended a gathering without bringing a dish to share.

Survivors include three children: Roger (Debbie) Nieders, of Payson, IL, Janet (Curt) Garber, of Springfield, IL, and Larry (Sara) Nieders, of Liberty, IL; a son-in-law, Roger Bolte of Quincy; five grandchildren: Joe (Denise) Nieders, of Quincy, Rick (Melissa) Nieders of Payson, IL, Eric (Heather) Nieders of Edinburg, IL, Holly (Matt) Kasparie of Quincy, and Alex (Jessica) Nieders of Quincy; a step-granddaughter, Tennille (Steve Ferguson) Powell of Quincy; 13 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Aubrey, Colin, Carter, Hannah, Noah, Adam, Ryleigh, Karli, Everly, Ashtun, Brody, and Arrow; a sister, Clara Holtman of TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband, Orville, Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Carol Bolte and the infant Betty Sue Nieders, and five siblings: Pat Obrien, Joe Ehrhardt, Becky Metzger, Alice Adair, and Bernadine Terstriep.

Visitation: 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Father Tom Donovan officiating.

Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, IL
