QUINCY — Anyone going by Blessing Hospital’s main campus this week will likely notice a little extra added attraction near the 11th Street entrance off of Broadway.

According to hospital officials, the crane is on site for a few days to set an air handler on the roof. Since the handler is a relatively large system, the crane will lift six separate sections of the system into place on the roof of the building.

Blessing officials added that the handler covers several operating rooms. Those rooms are currently served by an air handler located inside the building. The current plan is to lift the new handler system into place and switching over one room at a time to keep disruptions to a minimum.

“In order to make sure we are meeting the code for what an operating room should have in regard to air exchanges per hour, temperature, and humidity levels, each system will have to be rebalanced after each room is added to or removed from the systems,” the hospital said in a statement,

In total, the air handler replacement project is expected to take two years to complete. The crane, however, will only be in use to lift the rooftop units into place. Weather permitting, hospital officials expect the crane to be on site until Thursday.
