Linda Darlene Hinkamper, age 81, of Quincy, died on Sunday, June 21, 2026 in her home.
Linda was born on May 14, 1945, a daughter of Eugene and Darlene Welsh Beckman. She married Ronald W. Hinkamper on June 29, 1963 in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2018.
Linda attended St. Francis Grade School and Notre Dame High School before graduating from Quincy High School. She later continued her education at John Wood Community College. Throughout her working years, she was employed as a checkout supervisor at Kmart and also worked for Ridders Business Supply. Linda found great fulfillment working with children, serving as a teacher’s assistant at both St. John’s Grade School and the Early Childhood and Family Center.
A woman of deep faith and compassion, Linda was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and later Blessed Sacrament Parish, where she participated in the Circle of Caring ministry. She was also active in the Quincy Firefighter Ladies Auxiliary. Alongside her husband, Ron, she dedicated more than 25 years to serving as a foster parent through Quincy Catholic Charities, providing a loving and supportive home to children. They also welcomed exchange students into their home.
Linda found joy in staying busy and using her talents through sewing, crafting, painting, and canning produce from her garden. She generously shared her time and caring spirit through volunteer work at Blessing Hospital, her church, and local schools, touching the lives of many along the way. Faith and friendship were important parts of her life, and she especially cherished gathering with her friends from Calvary Baptist Church for Bible study, where she found encouragement, fellowship, and lasting connections.
Known for her quick wit and sense of humor, Linda loved teasing family and friends and never missed an opportunity to share a laugh. Outgoing and friendly, she never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Linda was a woman of strong convictions who spoke her mind. Whether you agreed with her or not, you always knew where you stood.
Linda’s love for her family was evident in all she did, and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of those she loved.
