Alma was born on November 21, 1924, in Palmyra, MO, the daughter of Everett and Anna (Shear) Hudson.

She was united in marriage to Howard Johnston on November 14, 1942 in Hannibal, MO. He precedes her in death.

Survivors include her brother, Ted Hudson (Teresa); her grandchildren, Dawn Jones (Scott) and Greg Johnston (Debbie); her great grandchildren, Kristen St. Clair (Casey), August Frost (Brittany), Grace Johnston and Lily Johnston; and her great great grandchildren, Vaelyn St. Clair and Vallie St. Clair.

In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her husband Howard Johnston on December 21, 2016; her children, Chris Johnston and Penny Johnston Neff, her brothers, Arthur Hudson, Kenneth Hudson, Clarence Hudson, Urban Hudson, Paul Hudson, Harold Hudson, Herman Hudson, and Gilbert Hudson and her sisters, Margaret Hamilton, Marie Thorington and Loretta Hudson.

Alma lived life with joy, style, and an appreciation for the simple things that brought people together. She enjoyed spending time fishing, attending car shows, and shopping, but her greatest passion was the classic automobile community. A dedicated volunteer with the United Way, Alma also devoted countless hours to the organizations she loved. She served for many years as President of the Missouri Valley Historic Club and the Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club of America, where she formed lasting friendships and shared her enthusiasm for preserving automotive history.

Those who knew Alma will always remember her impeccable sense of style. She was always dressed to a “T,” never without her makeup perfectly applied, her hair neatly done, and often wearing her signature fun socks and bright red shoes-even if she had nowhere special to go. She carried herself with grace and confidence and took pride in presenting herself beautifully every day.

Alma was especially proud of her Hudson family heritage and treasured the traditions and memories that connected her to her roots. In quieter moments, she enjoyed playing solitaire, as well as card games like Pitch and Skip-Bo with family and friends. She could often be found watching her favorite game shows, especially Family Feud and The Price Is Right during Bob Barker’s years, and she faithfully kept up with the day’s events by watching Fox News.

More than anything, Alma will be remembered for her warm personality, her generosity, her dedication to her community, and the unmistakable smile she brought wherever she went. Her love for family, friends, and the hobbies she cherished created a legacy that will continue to be celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Pallbearers will be Scott Jones, Casey St. Clair and August Frost.

Honorary Pallbearers are Bud Hudson, Gary Wayne Hudson, Donald Hudson, Mike Hudson, Everett Hudson, Ted Hudson, Marty Aulbur and Kurt St. Clair.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Maple Lawn Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Alma. They also wish to thank the entire St. Clair family, Alma’s beloved nieces-Jami, Linda, Debra, and Paula Kay-and everyone who offered their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Your compassion and generosity will always be remembered.
