Illinois launches dedicated whistleblower reporting page for financial industry

CHICAGO — The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) announced Tuesday, which marked National Whistleblower Day, the launch of a new online page allowing industry professionals to report suspected misconduct directly to the agency’s Division of Financial Institutions.
The dedicated whistleblower complaint page allows industry insiders to submit complaints about potential violations of law they’ve witnessed within industries the division regulates. Previously, such complaints were handled through the department’s general consumer complaint process. The new page provides a separate reporting channel, along with guidance and information about legal protections that may be available to whistleblowers.
“Whistleblower complaints are essential to helping IDFPR uncover unlawful conduct across the industries we regulate,” said Mario Treto Jr., secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. “This dedicated reporting page ensures that those who come forward are both heard and informed about potentially available protections.”
Department officials said the new channel is intended to make it easier for industry professionals, who often have access to information not available to the general public, to flag potential misconduct. The move follows a separate online portal the department launched in May for financial-related consumer complaints.
The new whistleblower page aligns Illinois with several federal regulators that maintain similar reporting channels for industry insiders, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Federal Reserve.
The whistleblower complaint portal, along with information about the complaint process and a list of regulated industries, is available on the department’s website.
