Iris Rose, 84, of Quincy, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Iris was born October 7, 1941, in Peoria, IL to Otis and Juanita (Carle) Manley. She married Wayne Rose in Mt Sterling, IL in 1959 and from this union, two children were born.
She graduated from Quincy High School in 1959 and went on to build a career defined by dedication and reliability. She served as a medical assistant for Dr. William Hanshaw for more than 20 years, where her patients appreciated her caring commitment to helping others. She also owned Sterling Awards at one time, demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit. In addition to her work, she volunteered her time and energy supporting young people and faith based outreach as a leader in the Great River TEC, or Teens Encountering Christ, Program.
Iris had many interests and found joy in both simple pleasures and memorable adventures. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and the fun and friendship that came with it. She liked visiting the casinos and testing her luck at the one-arm bandits, as she affectionately called the slot machines. At home, she found comfort in watching Hallmark movies and game shows, and she enjoyed playing cards, especially Australian rummy. She also loved to travel and treasured special memories made in Texas, Kansas City, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and Washington D.C. Above all else, Iris loved spending time with her family. She delighted in the addition of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she especially enjoyed spoiling her grand dogs. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her two sons, Jerry Rose (Debra) of Payson, IL, and Richard Rose of Ina, IL; two grandchildren, Brenda Leppin (Brandon) and David Rose (Angie); three great-grandchildren, Caden, Jackson, and Sawyer; and two bonus sisters, Boots Rutherford and Shirley Clark.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband, Wayne Rose; two sisters, Barbara Wellman and Eva Mae Bowen; one brother, Bill Manley; and two bonus sisters, Jenny DeWitt and Barb Garthaus.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
