Philip Eric Lipper, 66, of Harrisburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose quiet strength, steady presence, and unwavering love will be deeply missed.

Phil was born in Carthage, Illinois, on November 17, 1959, to Raymond Royal and Bessie Alma (Stamper) Lipper.

A gifted auto mechanic starting at a young age, Phil found joy in working with his hands. He especially enjoyed restoring classic muscle cars. Phil was a lifelong Mopar man and although he had an appreciation for other brands of cars and trucks, he stayed true to Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge. To him, every project was more than just an engine or a body – it was a story waiting to be told. Phil could often be found in his garage listening to classic rock playing through his 8-track tape player, while working on his dream car, a 1966 Dodge Coronet. His garage was not only a workshop, but also a gathering place where friends shared laughs and swapped stories.

Phil leaves behind his beloved dog and loyal companion, Jackson. Known for his remarkable way with animals, Phil had a calm, patient approach that effortlessly won the trust and affection of any creature he encountered. This special bond provided immense comfort during Phil’s battle with cancer, as Jackson remained a constant, reassuring presence throughout his illness. Jackson reflected the quiet kindness and steady devotion that Phil showed to all living things, serving as a great source of strength until the very end.

Above all, Phil cherished the people he loved. He was a devoted family man and loyal friend whose greatest satisfaction came from seeing others happy. Whether it meant answering a late-night phone call, making an unscheduled drive without hesitation to provide assistance, or simply offering a listening ear, he showed-up every time. Phil’s quiet encouragement had a way of making even life’s hardest moments feel a little lighter and easier to manage.

Phil married Sandra (Repplinger) Barber on August 16, 1997 in Eminence, Missouri during a church canoe trip to the Current River. For Phil, home was wherever Sandy was, which meant the occasional trip to the Smoky Mountains, a spontaneous historic Route 66 adventure, or hitting the road in search of seemingly unattainable car parts at swap meets. Together they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering commitment, remaining devoted partners through nearly three decades of marriage.

Phil believed family was built through love as much as blood, and those he welcomed into his life became his own. The names that follow reflect just some of the countless lives he touched.

Phil is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; his two daughters, Amber (Mike) Doyle of Hamilton, Illinois, and Lindsey (Ramiro) Barber-Montalvo of Chicago, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jenessa and Noah Doyle, Lily and Ella Montalvo; two great-grandchildren, Brynlynn Conkright and Arizona Doyle; his brother, Rodney (Roxanne) Lipper of Burlington, Iowa; his sister, Bev (Irvin) Chase of Milwaukie, Oregon; Linda and Randy Werkheiser of Herod, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Bessie (Stamper) Lipper, and his sister, Roxie (Lipper) Fry.

Though his hands are now at rest and his tools laid down, the love he shared, the lessons he taught, the stories he told, and the memories created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Phil leaves behind a legacy measured by the people he loved so deeply and the lives he enriched simply by his presence.

In lieu of immediate funeral services, a car cruise through the Shawnee National Forest will be held this fall including a celebration of life ceremony at the end of the ride. Additional details will be released as the date approaches.
