Ron Walton, 89, of Golden Good Shepherd Home, died at 7:14 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the home.
Born May 23, 1937, in Adams County, IL, Ron was the son of Floyd and Irene Elizabeth (Goodwin) Walton. He married Patricia A. Berry on June 7, 1957, in New London, MO. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2012.
Ron proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years. Following his military retirement, he worked for Gardner Denver in Quincy. After retiring a second time, he enjoyed working in the cafeteria at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
He was a 33rd Degree Mason, a member of Ansar Shrine, and a former Worthy Patron of Liberty Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. During his 20-year Air Force career, Ron traveled extensively throughout the United States and around the world. He also enjoyed collecting a wide variety of items. In his later years, Ron found great happiness as a resident of the Golden Good Shepherd Home, where he made many friends and appreciated the excellent care he received. He was well known for his sense of humor, being onery, and loving with his whole heart.
Survivors include one son, R. Scott Walton (Linda) of Quincy, IL; two daughters, Joni L. Truex (Dale) of Atwood, IN, and Kelly M. Lummer of Camp Point, IL; seven grandchildren, Amber Hill, Adam Walton (Tosha), Cory Truex (Christina), Kristen Pruitt (Brandon), Col. R. Arron Lummer (Melinda), Eric Lummer (Misty), and Evan Lummer (Angela); seventeen great-grandchildren living in Illinois, Indiana, Alabama, Montana, South Carolina, and Washington; one great-great-grandchild in Alabama; one sister, Lois French of Missouri; one brother, Raymond Walton of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son-in-law, Randy Lummer; and his siblings, Edward Walton, Larry Walton, Shirley Warning, Gary Walton, and Mike Walton.
Ron was cremated. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Lummis-Hamilton Funeral Home in Camp Point. Military honors will be conducted at the conclusion of the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to the Golden Good Shepherd Home Activities Fund.
