Tucker pitches gem to push Pirates past Holt in district opener

O’FALLON, Mo. — Hannibal Pirates left-hander Azariah Tucker was dominant on the mound in the the opener of the Class 5 District 4 tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
Tucker pitched a two-hit complete game shutout with six strikeouts to lead Hannibal to a 1-0 win over Holt in the district quarterfinal.
Hannibal scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Patrick Arthaud drew a bases loaded walk to score Cole Baxter.
Pirates center fielder and leadoff hitter Cooper Scott went 2-for-3 , while third baseman Bennett Straube also went 2-for-3.
Baxter and Korby Asbury each had a hit for Hannibal.
Holt starting pitcher Chase Crowley was tagged with the loss after pitching six innings with five strikeouts, while allowing six hits, three walks and one earned run.
Indians designated hitter Easton Winans and second baseman Beckett House had the lone hits for Holt.
Up next for Hannibal (18-16) is the Class 5 District 4 semifinal game at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates will play the winner of Tuesday evening’s St. Dominic vs. Hazelwood East quarterfinal game.
