Pirates fall to top-seeded St. Dominic in district semifinal

O’FALLON, Mo. — The Hannibal Pirates fell to No. 1 seed St. Dominic 11-1 in the Class 5 District 4 semifinal game on Wednesday afternoon.
The Crusaders jumped ahead early by scoring seven runs in the first inning to seize control of the game.
Hannibal scored its lone run in the top of the second when Alex Arthaud singled home Bennett Straube.
The Pirates totalled five hits, one each from Alex Arthaud, Bennett Straube, Keegan Daughtery, Luke Straube and Korby Asbury.
Pirates starting pitcher Cole Baxter was tagged with the loss after pitching 1.1 innings with no strikeouts, while allowing five hits, two walks and five earned runs.
Hannibal then turned to Nolan Dudley, who pitched 2.2 innings with one strikeout and allowing two hits, three hits and one earned run. Nicholas Nguyen pitched a third of an inning in relief.
Hannibal finishes the 2026 season with a 18-17 record and will graduate Alex Arthaud, Patrick Arthaud, Bennett Baumgardner, Baxter and Cooper Scott.
