Raiders fall short to Beardstown in regional quarterfinal

QUINCY — A pair of three-run innings by Beardstown proved to be Quincy Notre Dame’s undoing in the Class 2A Williamsville Regional quarterfinal game, with the Tigers defeating the Raiders 9-8 at Ferd Niemann Jr. Memorial Ballfield on Memorial Day.
QND took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kyle Thompson singled home Eli Johnson, but Beardstown limited the damage as the Raiders stranded the bases loaded.
The Tigers tied it up in the second inning when Maddox Medrano drove in Josh Camas, and took the lead in the third after Caleb Hobrock drove in Tucker Sorrells and Colby Desollar stole home.
However, QND tied it up in the third when Matt Many doubled home Rowan Stegeman and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Raiders took a 5-3 lead after JD Grawe scored on a wild pitch and Eli Johnson singled home Kaden Marth in the fourth inning.
Beardstown had their first three-run inning in the fifth when Zach Meyer doubled home Desollar, Meyer scored on an error and Medrano doubled home Hobrock to put the Tigers up 6-5.
In the sixth, Parker Bell doubled home Desollar, Meyer scored on an error and Trey Riddell singled home Hobrock.
Johnson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to narrow Beardstown’s lead to 9-7, and scored on more run in the seventh after JD Grawe drove in Logan Woodyard.
Johnson went 2-for-4 with a walk, home run, three RBIs and a run, while Stegeman went 2-for-3 with a walk, run and a stolen base.
Desollar went 3-for-4 with three runs and a stolen base, while Meyer went 1-for-3 with a walk, double, RBI, stolen base and two runs.
QND starting pitcher Samuel Klauser had a no decision after pitching three innings with three strikeouts, while allowing two hits, five walks and three earned runs.
Raiders relief pitcher Drew Bordewick struck out the side in his first inning in relief, but ran into trouble in his second. He pitched 1.2 innings with four strikeouts, while allowing three hits, two walks and two earned runs and getting tagged for the loss.
Marth came in relief in the sixth for QND, but was pulled after allowing three straight hits. The left-handed Woodyard pitched two separate occasions, sandwiching Marth and pitching 2.1 innings.
Riddell started the game for Beardstown and had a no decision after pitching four innings with five strikeouts, while allowing five hits, four walks and four earned runs.
Desollar got the win after pitching three innings in relief with two strikeouts, while allowing five hits, three walks and three earned runs.
Beardstown will play Porta in the Class 2A Williamsville Regional semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
QND finishes the 2026 season with a 13-17 record.
