Saukees slug their way to victory over Hornets

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — Brown County traveled to face Pittsfield with both teams tuning up for what they hope is a successful postseason.
The game was close early on, but the Saukees erupted for 11 runs in the fifth inning to run-rule Brown County 15-2 on Monday in the regular season finale at Pittsfield High School.
Pittsfield three-hole hitter Ryan Harris had a big day, going 3-for-4 with a home run, six RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases.
Harris hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning that run-ruled the Hornets, and had an RBI single his first at bat of the frame.
The Saukees also had an RBI double and RBI walk from Kaden Ferguson, RBI single from Bobby Harris, RBI single from Jacob Hull and RBI walk from Hayden Gratton during the fifth.
Pittsfield scored in bunches and got on the board with a four-run bottom of the third inning that started with a two-out walk by Gratton. Ryan Harris singled home Gratton, and then Brody Tomhave came through with a two-RBI double to score Ferguson and Harris to take the lead. Knox Dunham later scored on a passed ball to put Pittsfield up 4-2.
Brown County took a brief 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning after Connor Flynn drove in Collin Dieterle and Myer Maxwell drove home Matthew Boylen.
Pittsfield went with a bullpen game, with Ryan Harris starting the game and getting a no decision after pitching two innings. Gratton pitched an inning in relief to get the win, while Hull pitched the final two innings.
Brown County starting pitcher Royal Wolfe went 4.1 innings and was tagged with the loss. Jaxon Henricks pitched a third of an inning in relief.
Up next for Brown County (18-6-2) the Class 1A Mendon Unity Regional semifinal game against West Central Winchester at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Up next for Pittsfield (22-12) is the Class 2A Williamsville Regional semifinal game against Williamsville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
