Barry man injured Friday in crash with train

BARRY, Ill. — A crash between a train and vehicle near Barry on Friday has left one man in critical condition.
According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by Samuel Oitker, 18, of Barry was hit by a westbound Norfolk-Southern train at a private crossing leading to Smith Agri-Service just over two miles west of Barry.
Oitker was airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield where he remains in critical condition on Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s department’s release on the crash. At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
The Pike County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Barry Fire Department, Pike County Ambulance Service, and Air-Evac.
