QUINCY — Quincy Medical Group and the QMG Foundation will honor National Cancer Survivors Day with a “Hope Grows Here” event.

The free event, honoring people who have faced or are facing a cancer diagnosis, takes place 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Frericks Gardens and Coffee House, 3400 N. 12th.

“It’s a special day for me,” said Judy Venvertloh, a cancer survivor and past participant. “I am not only celebrating my survival from cancer but also honoring those I know who are currently battling cancer or have faced it in the past.”

Survivors can enjoy a sweet treat from the Sugared Apron, plant a succulent or pick out a mini bouquet and sign a commemorative ribbon that the foundation will hang on the tree at the QMG Cancer Institute.

Proceeds from a specialty drink at Frericks Gardens will benefit the foundation’s Oncology Patient Assistance Fund, which supports patients during treatment.

More information is available by calling the foundation at 217-222-6550, ext. 3410.
