QUINCY — At Wednesday’s monthly Park Board meeting, commissioners received an update on the investigation into a battery that was reported in Moorman Park on June 4.
Quincy Police Department Deputy Chief Mike Tyler told the board that following a review of the information collected after the report was made led to the arrest of one juvenile suspect on Monday, while a second juvenile is still be sought in connection with the reported battery.
Tyler said QPD is taking steps to broaden patrols through the park, including measures that he didn’t detail so that potential bad actors don’t know what actions law enforcement is taking.
One note that Tyler did add was to implore the community at large to report any criminal activity they may see or be a victim of criminal acts as quickly as possible to allow the police to investigate while scenes are as fresh as possible. He said the first report of this battery came more than three hours after the incident happened.
Park Board President Mark Philpot added that he has spoken with Adams County Sheriff Tony Grootens who committed to providing additional support from deputies to help with patrolling parks to work to ensure that Quincy’s parks remain safe and inviting to everyone.
The board approved using $5,000 of excess General Obligation bond funds for the design and engineering work needed for repairing degraded bearings on the Quinsippi Island bridge. Executive Director Rome Frericks said the engineering work will help determine the extent of repair work needed and the best plan to move forward on the repairs.
In a last bit of action, the board approved a variance to the district’s park usage ordinance that will allow Lincoln Park to be open and occupied until 1 a.m. on July 24 and 25 to allow for the use by Gem City Concerts.
