NEMO programs benefit row crop, livestock producers

University of Missouri Extension offers two August programs in northeast Missouri designed to help row crop and livestock producers.

The Northeast Missouri Research, Extension and Education Center Field Day will take place Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Greenley Memorial Research Farm near Novelty. Breakfast will be available at 7 a.m. Tours start at 8 a.m., and the field day wraps up with lunch.

The annual event, which is free and open to the public, features faculty speakers and field tours focused on crops, pests, and livestock.

Featured presentations include flooding impact on corn and soybean production and biological stimulants in corn: hype or reality on the crop tour, virtual fencing systems and grazing grain sorghum on the livestock tour, and weed management considerations for 2026 and beyond on the pest tour.

Field days offer opportunities to see research in action and connect with Extension specialists. Organizers say the events help bridge the gap between academic research and real-world application by bringing applied research directly to producers and communities.

A three-day grazing school provides opportunities for in-depth discussions, field exercises, farm tours, and reference materials covering both livestock and agronomic topics related to grazing.

The Management Intensive Grazing School takes place Aug. 25-27 at Providence Baptist Church, 20250 State Route E in Williamstown.

The Northeast Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Natural Resources Conservation Service, MU Extension, and the Missouri Forage and Grassland Council sponsor the school designed to teach producers, educators, and agency personnel the fundamentals of management-intensive grazing through a hands-on approach.

Producers who attend all sessions may be eligible to participate in SWCD grazing system cost-share programs. Attendance also may improve a producer’s eligibility for NRCS Environmental Quality Incentives Program assistance, which provides financial and technical support for implementing conservation practices.

Lunch will be provided each day of the school.

Cost is $110 per person and $50 for an additional member of the same farming operation.
