QUINCY — Union United Methodist Church will host its 41st Annual Homemade Ice Cream Social on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Jensen Fellowship Hall, 1101 State St.

The event, a Quincy tradition for more than four decades, brings together neighbors, families, and visitors for an evening of homemade food and fellowship.

Guests can expect Italian sausage from Eovaldi’s Deli, located in The Hill, St. Louis’ historic Italian neighborhood, along with brats, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and homemade desserts. The church will also serve homemade chocolate, vanilla, and butter pecan ice cream, as well as orange-pineapple sherbet.

A free-will offering will be collected, with proceeds supporting the church’s local outreach ministries and mission efforts.

“This event has become a favorite tradition for our church and the community,” said Peggy Anderson, one of the event’s co-chairs.

Fellow co-chair Joan Miller said the event depends on a large group of volunteers each year.

“We’re grateful for the many volunteers and talented bakers who make it possible each year, and we invite everyone to come enjoy a delicious end-of-summer evening with us,” Miller said.

Preparations begin Thursday, Aug. 6, when volunteers gather to churn gallons of homemade ice cream. Church members are also contributing homemade pies, cakes, brownies, and cobblers for the event.
