QND upends Pittsfield in regional semifinal game

WILLIAMSVILLE, Ill. — Entering the Class 2A Williamsville Regional as the No. 6 seed, Quincy Notre Dame entered the postseason with a tough matchup against No. 4 seed Pittsfield on Thursday.
Being the lower seed did not phase QND as it powered its way to a 9-3 win over the Saukees, avenging an earlier defeat to Pittsfield in the regular season.
The Raiders struck first with a run in the first inning and two more in the second, but Pittsfield plated a couple of runners in the third to narrow QND’s lead to 3-2.
QND responded with a run in the fourth inning and then blew the game open with a five-run fifth.
Raiders starting pitcher Cadence Smith earned the win after pitching a complete game with four strikeouts, while allowing nine hits, two walks and three earned runs.
Saukees starting pitcher Emma Wombles also pitched a complete game in a losing effort with six strikeouts, while allowing eight hits, seven walks and three earned runs.
QND shortstop Morgan Mueller went 1-for-3 with a walk, home run, RBI and two runs.
Raiders second baseman Ellie Miller went 2-for-4 with a run, stolen base and two RBIs, while center fielder Morgan Winking went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.
Pittsfield first baseman Daytlynn McCallister went 2-for-4 with a run, while catcher Kinlee Griggs went 2-for-4 and left fielder Paige Willman went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.
The Saukees finish the 2026 season with a 19-8 record.
Up next for QND (19-11) is the Class 1A Williamsville Regional championship game against Williamsville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
