QUINCY — The Quincy man facing charges of possession of child pornography had his case set on the Adams County August jury docket at a hearing Tuesday afternoon.
The case against Benjamin J. Inman, 28, had been scheduled to begin on June 1 before being taken off the docket at a May 14 hearing at the request of Chief Public Defender John Citro.
Inman had filed a complaint in 2025 against a Quincy city information and technology employee over alleged harassing messages the employee had sent. At the same time, Inman himself was facing charges of harassing a Quincy alderman. During the investigation into Inman’s complaint, he provided his cell phone to Quincy Police detectives to show where the harassment against him originated.
One day after Inman was sentenced to 30 months probation after pleading guilty to making threats against the alderman, QPD arrested him on new charges. These included two counts of possession of child pornography with a victim under 13, a Class 2 felony, and two counts of child pornography through a computer or electronic device, a Class 3 felony. The allegedly criminal material was located by QPD while looking through the phone Inman provided.
Following his arrest and based on the nature of the allegations, Inman was ordered held in the Adams County Jail pending his case moving forward. While court cases do have “speedy trial” deadlines by state law, delays attributed to the defense are not generally charged against that calendar.
If convicted on either of the Class 2 charges, Inman could face as much as seven years in prison. The Class 3 felonies carry a maximum possible sentence of up to five years each.
The case was set for a status hearing on July 14 ahead of the planned August trial date, though additional motions, if filed, could see additional hearings planned.
