North Shelby advances to state with Berry’s walk-off steal of home

COOTER, Mo. — It all came down to a steal of home for North Shelby as their Class 1 state quarterfinal game against Cooter entered extra innings on Wednesday afternoon.
With the game tied 1-1 and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, Raiders freshman courtesy runner Carson Berry stole home for the go-ahead run.
Berry’s steal proved to be the difference and gave North Shelby a 2-1 victory over No. 3 ranked Cooter.
North Shelby starting pitcher Ty Bacon had a no decision after pitching five innings with seven strikeouts.
Raiders pitcher Cole Browning earned the win after pitching three scoreless innings in relief.
North Shelby took an early 1-0 lead when Bo Bacon hit a sac fly to score Jagger Gaines in the bottom of the third inning. Cooter tied the game up in the top of the fifth inning.
Up next for North Shelby (17-3) is the Class 1 state quarterfinal game against St. Elizabeth (17-7) at 4 p.m. on Monday at Ozark, Mo.
