Brown County sheriff’s office releases weekly activity report

MOUNT STERLING — Local law enforcement officers responded to three traffic crashes, including a hit-and-run collision that resulted in a driving under the influence arrest, and issued one speed citation between July 28 and July 31, according to records from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
The most serious incident occurred July 29, when a vehicle driven south on Pittsfield Road at Springdale Street by Nitish Sharma of Brampton, Ontario, was struck by a vehicle that crossed the center line. The driver of the second vehicle, Hector M. Canul of Petersburg, fled the scene but was later located by officers and cited for DUI.
On July 31, a two-vehicle collision was reported on U.S. Route 24. Hunter G. Edlin of Mount Sterling was traveling eastbound and waiting to turn onto County Road 900E when a vehicle driven by Murphy Molina-Rodriguez of Beardstown failed to yield and struck the rear of Edlin’s vehicle.
In a separate traffic incident on July 28, Caleb D. Shipley of Jacksonville struck a deer while traveling on Route 99 north of Versailles. No injuries were reported in any of the three accidents, though each vehicle sustained more than $1,500 in damage.
Deputies also issued one traffic citation during the period. Nida Applyrs of Beardstown was cited July 28 for driving 42 mph in a 25 mph zone near the intersection of Main and Cherry streets in Versailles.
Suspects are considered to be innocent until judged otherwise in a court of law.
