QUINCY — An Adams County Jury found a Quincy man guilty Monday on several charges related to a March domestic violence incident.

Brian G. Stafford, 34, of Quincy is facing up to six years in state prison at his July 30 sentencing following his conviction. After hearing evidence presented in the one-day trial, the jury found Stafford guilty of unlawful restraint, a Class 4 felony, as well as domestic battery and interfering with the report of domestic violence, both Class A misdemeanors.

According to the Adams County State’s Attorney’s Office, Assistant State’s Attorney Ryan Parker presented the jury with evidence that on March 17, Stafford grabbed the victim by the arm while she was holding a child, forcing her arm behind her back.

After managing to free herself, the victim went to a bedroom and attempted to call the police before Stafford took the phone and grabbed her face, forcing her to her knees. The jury then heard that Stafford made the victim recite the “Our Father” prayer seven times, then prevented her from leaving the home.

Adams County State’s Attorney Todd Eyler commended the victim for the courage to come forward both in reporting the crime and in testifying to the court.

“The amount of courage it takes for a victim to do these things cannot be emphasized enough, and we all need to do everything we can to help and support victims of domestic violence to find such courage,” Eyler’s statement said.
